Walt La Rue

Walt La Rue who passed in 2010 is a Renaissance Man in the truest sense.  His rodeo career was long
and included him receiving a turtle pin right up to being inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2024. 

As an actor and stuntman, he appeared in over 100 movies, both Western and non-western.  His art reflected every aspect of his lifetime, fine art, illustrations, and cartoons.  La Rue art appeared in advertisements, covers
of Western Horseman, Cowboy Magazine, or you may have seen it on Leaning Tree gift cards.  As a cowboy singer he appeared at many gatherings and events.

Known for his contributions to Western films and television shows during Hollywood’s golden age. La Rue’s rugged persona and horsemanship made him a sought-after stunt man in a variety of classic Westerns.

In addition to his film work, Walt La Rue lent his distinctive voice to numerous radio and television programs, further broadening his impact on the industry. His skills extended to cartoon voice-overs and narration, showcasing his versatility as a performer.

Beyond his work in entertainment, Walt La Rue was also an accomplished painter. Drawing inspiration from his experiences in the American West, La Rue created vivid landscapes and scenes that captured the spirit and
rugged beauty of cowboy life. His artwork was celebrated for its authenticity and attention to detail, earning him recognition among collectors and fans of Western art.
La Rue's passion for painting further highlighted his creative talents and deep connection to the culture he helped portray on screen.

Walt La Rue was remembered for his professionalism, adventurous spirit, and lasting influence on the Western genre. He passed away on November 7, 2010, leaving behind a legacy cherished by fans of classic American cinema and television.

Walt La Rue's estate in 2025 was acquired by Vickie Mullen of Ellensburg WA. It is a vast collection of movie memorabilia, personal and professional letters, pictures, saddle and guitar.
